Our Story
As a faith-based nonprofit assisted living community, Saint Francis - Manchester has provided support to seniors for 50 years in Central Virginia. Priority is given to elderly individuals who cannot afford care - those eligible for Medicaid, as well as “middle-income” seniors who struggle to find reasonably priced assisted care. Saint Francis - Manchester relies on the generosity of people like you to help address this growing challenge.
Did you know...?
- The Commonwealth Council on Aging reported “more than 25% of Virginians will be over the age of 60 by the end of the year 2025”?
- Predictions by the NORC are that“excluding home equity, 72% of middle-income seniors will have insufficient resources to pay for assisted living.”
- According to Genworth Financial, in 2023, with higher rates of inflation, assisted living care will average $6,232/month in metropolitan Richmond.
- The Virginia Department of Social Services reports for those who are considered“low-income” and qualify for Medicaid, the number of care facilities that will accept an Auxiliary Grant stipend towards care is decreasing because of poor reimbursement - $1,682/month in 2023.
- The Joint Commission on Health care found that of 567 Virginia AL facilities, only 221 accept a Grant. This is down 41% since 2010.
